| Watch Rufio live and the first thing to catch your attention is how much fun the band is having. It’s infectious. Singer and guitarist, Scott Sellers, has an ear-to-ear grin cemented across his face. He’s genuinely stoked to be playing every night’s show. Bassist, Jon Berry, and Guitarist, Clark Domae, can’t stand still. Spinning across the stage, nearly colliding, they frantically change places all night long. They bounce off the walls. Literally. Mike Jimenez is the backbone to it all, drumming like he’s trying to raise the Titanic. Everyone’s life depends on it. Rufio is dependent on no one when it comes to having a good time. Why shouldn’t these four guys from the Southern California suburbs of Rancho Cucamonga be completely amped? After only a few months together, RUFIO recorded a five-song demo in hopes of getting their music into the hands and minds of the public. The songs reached a fledgling indie-label, The Militia Group, who snapped the band up and released their full-length debut, “Perhaps, I Suppose,” in June 2001. The album started selling over 500 copies a week based on a word-of-mouth firestorm, lit by the band themselves, up all night chatting on the internet, which spread quickly, selling over 30,000 copies to date. A remarkable accomplishment considering the quartet had only recently graduated from high school. RUFIO hit the road in support of “Perhaps, I Suppose” and completed successful national tours with bands such as Strung Out, Taking Back Sunday and The Ataris. Rufio easily hold their own. They headlined treks up the west coast, selling out venues, selling out of their merchandise and expanding their ever-growing fan base with their energetic live shows and fresh sound. RUFIO took it to the next level in 2002, signing to Nitro Records and releasing a self-titled EP on February 25, 2003 to give their fans a taste of what is to come as they prepare to drop another full-length album. This enhanced, self-titled EP contains 3 brand new songs, live performance footage, exclusive photos, band interviews, and backstage/candid tour footage. RUFIO are currently in the studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rancid, Foo Fighters, and Queens of the Stone Age) hammering out a fresh batch of songs to comprise their sophomore album (due out in June). Plan is to hit the road again in April. Rufio is having too much fun to even think about slowing down. |
